Compete USA Competition Additional Information
We have received many questions about the competition and many parents feel their skaters are not ready for competition. We thought that it was best to offer more information in regard to the Compete USA competition because it really is a FUN experience for our skaters.
The Basic Elements portion of the competition is similar to one of our test sessions for Learn To Skate Badges 1–Pre Free Skate. Each Badge level of the competition will consist of a group or flight of three skaters. The skater will be asked to perform the elements as listed on the application. While the skater is performing the elements required there will be three judges assessing the skater. The judges are made up of the coaches from our Learn To Skate program.
Once each skater of the flight is finished, the judge's assessments are brought to the accountants to tally the scores. The scores are calculated and the results are posted. Shortly thereafter, the skaters will be called to the awards area where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals are awarded. The podium is decorated with balloons and it's a great opportunity to take photos.
Other questions that have been asked is the amount of time the competition takes. The Basic Elements portion of the competition starts at 9:00am and generally ends at 11:00am. The Program and Compulsory portion of the competition starts approx. at 11:00 and ends at 3:00pm. If you have time to stay, the Program and Compulsory events show our younger skaters what skills can be accomplished by continuing through the Learn-to-Skate program.
